a5c7b9f00b A 19th century Western. Chon Wang is a clumsy Imperial Guard to the Emperor of China. When Princess Pei Pei is kidnapped from the Forbidden City, Wang feels personally responsible and insists on joining the guards sent to rescue the Princess, who has been whisked away to the United States. In Nevada and hot on the trail of the kidnappers, Wang is separated from the group and soon finds himself an unlikely partner with Roy O'Bannon, a small time robber with delusions of grandeur. Together, the two forge onto one misadventure after another. A Chinese man travels to the Wild West to rescue a kidnapped princess. After teaming up with a train robber, the unlikely duo takes on a Chinese traitor and his corrupt boss. Shanghai Noon is a good example of what Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson can do together on set. This isn't as good as it could of have been, although if they'd changed the bad bit then the film wouldn't have worked as well. As usual the choreography is amazing, and Owen Wilson does a great Roy O'Bannon. Owen usually works with Ben "Zoolander" Stiller, but this shows that he can blend just as well with any other actor. Jackie Chan doesn't have this problem, as he never works with the same people for long periods of films. Altogether this film does live up to it's standards as well as it being quite a bit better than it's sequel. As the acting and storyline are both very good, I would give this 4 stars. Snuck into a sneak preview yesterday and I was not disappointed for a Chan American flick. I expected much of the movie to revolve around his action sequences, but they actually tie into a plot on this one - and the plot's not too horrid either. Jackie never got into it like he did in the films from the Old Country, but the man still showcases his skills here. And now, a word on the co-star.<br/><br/>Owen Wilson. This man has comedic talent. He has great timing, and the stuff he says in completely unexpected, but I find myself (being the smart-booty type I am) thinking that I probably would have said something of that manner in the same predicament. I guess it's a Texas thing. But he's a homegrown boy, a natural comedic talent (hell, he co-wrote "Rushmore" and "Bottle Rocket", among others), and I would love to see him show up in some other great indie or mainstream films. He's just a grand Texan with mad talent. Plus, he's a University of Texas kiddo too. GO LONGHORNS! Boy needs to get back to Austin more often - it's always fun to spot movie people around town.<br/><br/>So, overall, great casting on the main roles (although Lucy Liu gets on my nerves and didn't impress me at all), awesome that they used REAL American Indians to PLAY the Indians, and great, gut-busting comedy. Worth the time. And most college kiddos (whether they dabble or choose not to) will almost fall on the floor during the Peace Pipe and bathtub scenes. Can we relate or what…? We're so shallow…<br/><br/>No, seriously now, it's a great comedy, has good action, this is wonderful laugh-enducing work by Owen Wilson, and worth the ticket. Go see it. Now. No, you don't understand… RIGHT now. …….You're still sitting at your computer, aren't you? Why won't you *listen*??? I am the *ultimate* word on film! Don't make me hypnotize you now, boy. You wouldn't want me to do that. Oh no. Don't p**s off Texans. We can get real nasty-nasty. GOGOGOGOGOGO!!<br/><br/>… the power button will make your computer do fantastic tricks if you push it! I promise!<br/><br/>Go see the movie. And don't drink too much Coke in the morning - like me. A silly buddy caper that should delight the adolescent at heart, even if some of the jokes have been sitting too long in the desert sun.
